Two additional teams for 2019 Digicel Cup challenge will add to an already optimistic season of footy for rugby fans and players in the country.
The new inclusions for this year are the Central Dabaris and the Kimbe Cutters.
Digicel Cup Chairman, Adrian Chow, while giving the highlights for last year said that PNG NRL competition continues to grow from strength to strength.
‘’I welcome all the teams including the two new franchises and I am so proud to announce that this year we are expanding the competition so we are looking forward to an exciting year’’, said Mr Chow.
Digicel launches the 2019 NRL competitions with an overwhelming support from other sponsors in Port Moresby this week.
Captain for new franchise team the Kimbe Cutters, Martin Xavier said the Cutters are proud to be finally representing their province after they realised that they had a lot of talents in the province that needs to nurtured and developed.
Hence with the opportunity given now Martin said the game can be seen as a tool for unity in the province and they will give their best in the competition to make their people proud.
‘’The team is called Kimbe Cutters with the fact that we have oil palm in the province as the back bone of the local economy , therefore it is named after the palm cutters ‘’,said Martin.
Digicel has done great so far in its community engagement,especially with the cup were it involves the whole country.
The Digicel cup will kick off this weekend on Sunday.
