Detectives from the National Fraud & Anti-Corruption Directorate arrested and charged Hon. Robin Wilson of Terra Constituent, Wakunai District, Autonomous Region of Bougainville with one (01) count of Official Corruption. He was arrested on Warrant at Jacksons Airport in Port Moresby on arrival from Buka on Saturday morning.
An ABG Internal Audit investigation sanctioned by the Chief Secretary of the ABG revealed that whilst being the Minister for Mining, Mr Wilson authorised payment of K150, 000.00 to a local business firm purporting to be for the purchase of water tanks for Terra Constituency whom here presented. When the cheque was paid to the business firm concerned, he negotiated with the company and used some of the money to pay off his personal debts he owed companies and used the balance for his own personal use.
Police investigations established that the K150, 000.00 was part of K170, 000.00 budget under 2015 ABG Budget allocated to Terra Constituency as support grant for the construction of houses at K100, 000 and K70, 000.00 for the Terra Council of elders. The water tanks were never purchased either which were mere cover up.
"The conduct of the leader is criminal in nature as the people he represented who should have benefited from the project were denied the service and disadvantage let along by the person who represented their interest in the House of Representatives."
The Minister had several times given excuses and avoided police interview when invited to attend the interview. On Saturday morning he was arrested on warrant and taken to Boroko Police Station when he was placed in the cells. He will later appear in Court this week to answer to his charge.
