Athletics PNG is excited to announce it has a new vision for the Sport in PNG.
As the key sport at the Olympic Games and biggest medal contributor for PNG at Regional Games, the national body wishes to develop the sport of athletics so it meets the needs of every Papua New Guinean.
From grassroots through to elite athletics, from cross-country through to the variety of track and field events, Athletics PNG aims to deliver a variety of athletic services going forward.
With the help of marketing specialists, they have prepared a capability statement and are seeking partnerships with corporate sponsors. PNG Air were the first to come on board and negotiations are ongoing with a number of other potential partners. These partnerships will allow Athletics PNG to create more activity and deliver more programmes.
“Most sporting bodies operate in very difficult circumstances, relying heavily on volunteers and very few financial and human resources. PNG is a very challenging environment for any organisation and there are no quick fixes to the social and economic problems we face,” said Tony Green, Athletics PNG President.
“Despite this, Athletics PNG has remained pro active and has continued to find ways to support its athletes. The results speak for themselves.
“In doing so, we are currently taking stock of the situation following the resignation of Development Officer Dior Lowry and will make some decisions after the Pacific Games.
“We are proud of the achievements of our athletes and urge everyone who cares about the sport to get behind APNG at this time.”
Athletics PNG is seeking further corporate sponsorship to assist with the execution of this new vision and further information can be obtained from the secretary through email email@example.com.
