AUSTRALIA PAPUA NEW GUINEA BUSINESS COUNCIL’S ROLE

The Australia Papua New Guinea Business Council is a body that represents the interests of Australian and Papua New Guinean businesses to both the Australian and Papua New Guinean Governments in policy matters which may not be conducive for business in country especially here in PNG.

When this is the case, there will usually be a Ministerial Forum which is followed by a business dialogue where the council will represent its members and the wider business community’s interests to the necessary government representation.

“We also foster and promote business relationships by hosting a lot of networking events and facilitate business breakfasts,” the Australia Papua New Guinea Business Council Chief Executive Officer Mr. Materua Tamarua said.

To that regard, there was a recent business breakfast held where the council hosted the ANZ Group CEO’s visit to PNG because of the fact that a lot of our businesses bank with ANZ, the council together with ANZ (PNG) hosted a business breakfast at the Hilton Hotel with over 200 people attending whore ally appreciated the information provided especially in regards to the transition from ANZ to Kina Bank.

Furthermore, last month in June the Australia Papua New Guinea Business Council was part of a group of Councils and Chambers in the country that hosted the Inaugural PNG Investment Week which coincided with the 35th Australia PNG Business Forum and Trade Expo.

“It was well attended for the entire week where we had 1,800 people who attended, with 450 exhibitors at 120 Booths and 200 Speakers who presented on various business topics”, Mr. Tamarua said.
