The government team continues to say they are intact despite strong opposition coming from the Opposition and Marape camps in terms of the number of members aligned with them.
Deputy Prime Minister Charles Abel, tonight confirmed that the government currently has 60 members intact with the People’s National Congress (PNC) party having a total of 29 members. The government also dispelled the 57 member team claimed by the Opposition and Marape camps.
Abel said the most important thing now is to work together to address the concerns that have been raised by the members and not a time to be challenging the leadership of Prime Minister (PM) Peter O’Neill.
“It’s difficult times, ones got to weigh up all various issues in taking position, and consider responsibilities, consider electorate, consider the province and ultimately consider the country,” said Abel.
“In these difficult times I want to say PNC remains a solid team despite some of our good brothers leaving us.”
“In such a time like this, it is my duty to try and ensure that there is continuing stabilityin our country and we continue to work on the many good things our party andour coalition are doing.”
Abel added that there will also be issues and it will be a difficult time for a prime ministera nd its times like these that all members work together as a team to address the issues.
The deputy prime minister also said the door is always open for the members that have left tocome back and work with the PM to address the issues they have raised.
