Experience gained from 2018 polio campaign last year has helped the government of PNG to realize the importance of routine immunization and therefore 2019 was declared by former Health Minister Sir Puka Temu as the year of vaccination.
The NCD Health Services has again launched the integrated measles, rubella and polio vaccination campaign in Port Moresby yesterday.
Health Secretary Pascoe Kase said PNG has to make sure every child is vaccinated against immunizable diseases.
‘’ By declaring 2019 as year of immunization we have consciously decided to go back to routine immunization and see how we can do better in immunization activities’’
‘’ We do not want the outbreak of measles as happened in the past due to low immunization coverage , because currently there’s outbreak of measles in some countries around,”Kase said.
The Health department in partnership with other NGO’s and development partners once again call on all parents and guardians and partners to work together to complete the routine immunization by bringing children under the age of five to be vaccinated.
This time the vaccination is against the three deadly diseases measles, rubella and final round for polio.
