MANUS POLICE CONFISCATE HOMBREW EQUIPMENT

"The suspect was apprehended at Dungoumasih village outside Lorengau town over the weekend where he was arrested and charged for being in possession of home brew equipment."

A local man from Manus was arrested by Manus Police Mobile Squad 10 with two gas cylinders and seven large containers for producing home-brew.

Manus Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector David Yapu said the equipment used for brewing home brew are called“wara galas”.

The suspect was apprehended at Dungoumasih village outside Lorengau town over the weekend where he was arrested and charged for being in possession of home brew equipment.

Chief Inspector Yapu said he was pleased with the good work by mobile Squad 10 for assisting his local police with policing duties apart from their primary roles in Refugee Operations on Manus Island.

He said the issue of home brew and drug activities are on rise in Lorengau town and other parts of Manus Province.

PPC Yapu appealed to newly elected ward Councillors and Local Level Government Presidents to work closely with Police to address the issues.

“Law and Order is not the responsibility of Police alone but for all of us to work together and address the issue, creating a peaceful and conducive environment for us to live together in the community”, PPC Yapu said.
