Almost 200,000 children under the age of 15 years in NCD will be vaccinated starting on Monday the 24th of September to the 8th of October.
The Polio Response team will set up a turban clinics, schools, main bus stops, market places and settlements right throughout the city.
This mass vaccination comes about as a result of a confirmed polio case of a 6 year old boy on the 6th of September at the 5 Mile settlement area in NCD.
An emergency vaccination took place at the 5 Mile settlement area right after the confirmation of the first polio casein Port Moresby, which saw over 5000 children receiving the Polio vaccine.
Polio Response Coordinator for NCD, Dr Morimai Ipai is calling out to all parents to make it their responsibility in making sure every child under the age of 15 is vaccinated from Polio.
He is also seeking support from the community in terms of safety and the security of Polio Health workers when they go around to around carrying out vaccination.
“I want to reiterate that it is our shared responsibility to ensure the safety and security of the Polio workers going into communities and schools.”
“Let us work together to protect our health workers so they can protect our children from Polio” said Dr Morimai.
