NAMATANAI MP Walter Schnaubelt has jumped on the bandwagon to rescue the Niu Ailan Rugby Football League (NRFL) with K13, 200 to participate in the New Guinea Islands (NGI) Confederate Challenge slated for August 23 and 24, in Kokopo.
The support from the MP relieves the burden of the league who were financially trapped to send their team for the confederate challenge.
As it is one of his (Schnaubelt) policies to support sports programs in his district and the province, the funding fits in well to motivate the players to showcase their talents during the two-day tournament inthe provincial town of East New Britain.
Chairman of the New Ireland Rugby Football League (NRFL) Dennis Gati whilst thanking the MP said: “amidst our struggle financially, still our leader can find options to ensure our youths are not left out and participate meaningfully in development through sports.’’
“On behalf of the league, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge with great appreciation MP NTI’s financial support through the Namatanai Advancement Limited (NAL) towards supporting the NRFLs squad’s preparation camp and travel to Kokopo for the NGI Confederate Trials.
‘’Without your support we would not be planning to participate in the 2019 NGI Confederate Trials to expose our raw talents,” Gati said.
The NRFL will send a contingent of Senior Men, Under20s and Women’s team for the challenge.
Namatanai will host the trial matches amongst Kavieng and Lihir to select the final squad for the NGI confederate challenge.
The trials matches will be held from August 23-24 in Namatanai.
Eric Soien who will be in-charge of the team’s preparation said the team will be camped in Namatanai and under training once the final squad has been announced.
He said the team will travel by boat to Kokopo to participate in the challenge.
