NGCB DONATES 1000 SEWING MACHINES TO EHP WOMEN

Eastern Highlands Province plans to address cross cutting issues through up skilling women in the province with basic sewing skills training.

The training anticipates to cover all eight districts of the province. This will see women groups from each district to work closely with the Office of the Eastern Highlands Governor to deliver the program.

The National Gaming Control Board realized the importance of the program and has donated one thousand (1000) sewing machines worth over K300, 000.00 to assist with the training.

Eastern Highlands Governor Honorable Peter Numu received the donation today in Port Moresby. The sewing machines will be used for training women in enhancing their sewing skills.

Registered women groups will appoint women in their groups to attend the training.

NGCB CEO, Imelda Agon, said the sewing machines donated will be used in the training for women will enrich their knowledge of basic sewing skills that will empower them to be more self- sustainable in their community.

Agon said the inclusion of addressing cross cutting issues such as healthy living, gender based violence good governance, gender equality, HIV/AIDS awareness supports the government’s development agenda to improve the quality of life in the country.

“Gender based violence is rife in our community and we all should be working together and advocate for change. Our support through such initiative will taint positive message of women empowerment. Such programs promotes self- sustainability and also contributes to the development of small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in the country” Agon said.

The training will run for three months under the Sewing Development Program for women in EHP. Sewing Development Program is a partnership initiative between the Governor Hon. Peter Numu and Farmers Hardware Limited, a Non-Government Organization in the Eastern Highlands Province.
