A significant momentum has been achieved in 2018 through the polio response that was successfully carried out through five nationwide and sub national polio immunizations.
UNICEF hosted a media orientation conference on Polio, Routine Immunization, Nutrition and WASH to discuss the outcome of last year’s Polio campaigns. Acting Manager Expanded Program for Immunization Dr Mathias Bauri confirmed that up to 3.2 million children under the age of 15 have been vaccinated throughout the country.
“Diseases such as Polio, Measles and Pertussis can be prevented if children are fully vaccinated”, said Bauri.
Dr Bauri said that all immunization campaigns achieved more than 90% reported coverage through the campaign.
“The immunization program covered all 22 provinces in 5 rounds in the global combat to eradicate Polio”, said Bauri. This year been the year of immunization,Bauri urges parents to bring their children to be vaccinated in the next round of polio campaign in March.
