REINSTATE PROF GRIFFIN, SAYS DR LINO

“UPNG’s integrity as a premier institution is at stake and will only do better if its credibility is restored."

Shadow Minister for Education Dr Lino Tom hasput the Minister for Higher Education Pila Niningi to task to put aside political nepotism and reinstate the sidelined Vice Chancellor Professor Frank Griffin.

Dr Tom put the challenge to the Minister in light of the recent UPNG crisis which arose as a result of actions by the Minister in dissolving the University Council.

Dr Lino said the Minister’s response to all these issues are uncalled for and there is a need for these changes to be ushered carefully and slowly to bring significant change and restore order on campus.

“UPNG’s integrity as a premier institution is at stake and will only do better if its credibility is restored by allowing processes to go forth with less political interference,” said Dr Tom.

Dr Tom in his statement said that Minister Nininga along with the University Council has to rescind their decision in order for the properly appointed Vice Chancellor to resume duty.

“We can’t jeopardize the academic year for our children who are awaiting to attend classes’, says Dr Tom.
