"The stay order sought sought by MP Lelang was to prevent the provincial assembly meeting this morning to elect a new governor."

The vote for a new Governor for West New Britain has been suspended after the Member for Kandrian Gloucester Joseph Lelang, took out a stay order from the National Court to stop the provincial assembly meeting this morning.

After much deliberation over the Stay Order by lawyers, it was revealed that the Order was to prevent the Minister for State Enterprises, Sasindran Muthuvel from chairing the provincial assembly meeting to conduct the vote as he is no longer the governor.

However, Muthuvel said earlier this week he is still the governor of the province until a new governor is elected by the provincial assembly as per the organic law.

Meantime, the provincial assembly sitting is expected to resume at 3pm this afternoon, hopefully when the matter is resolved.
