SUSPECT OF ATTEMPTED RAPE SURRENDERS TO POLICE

"Police alleged that on 23 February, the victim who is elderly woman was sleeping in her house when the intoxicated suspect went into her house and tried to rape her."

Manus Police arrested a young man for attempted rape at Pitiluh ward in Lorengau.

The suspect Malakai Salamoh age 27 years of Pitiluh Island was arrested and charged for Attempted Rape.

Provincial Police Commander Chief Inspector David Yapu said police alleged that on 23 February, the victim who is elderly woman was sleeping in her house when the intoxicated suspect went into her house and tried to rape her.

“But the victim struggled, pushed him aside and ran out of her house and alerted the neighbours who came to her rescue”, said PPC Yapu.

PPC Yapu said police went to Pitiluh Island upon the request by Ward Councillor Alfred Tom to conduct awareness on Law and Order issues which resulted in the surrender of the suspect to police.

He said another suspect of Sexual Penetration of a minor from the same Island will soon surrender to Police.

Yapu said this is a good approach taken by the Ward Councillor and appealed to other ward councillors in the 131 wards to take similar approaches to dealwith law and Order issues at their wards.
