USAID READY HANDS OVER JOINT ORGNIZATIONAL REPORT TO CCDA

“Today, with further support from USAID through the Ready project, we completed a joint organization assessment report of CCDA."

The United States Agency for International Development through their Ready project today handed over an Organizational Assessment report to the Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA) in Port Moresby. CCDA is Papua New Guinea’s apex organization for coordinating Government's climate resilience efforts and the country’s National Designated Authority for the Green Climate Fund.

The organizational assessment which has been conducted jointly by the CCDA and USAID Ready identifies strengths and weaknesses in CCDA’s policies and procedures in areas that will enable it to effectively perform its functions as the National Designated Authority, such as project and program development, international procurement, accounting, oversight, planning, and monitoring and evaluation processes.

The joint organizational assessment is providing CCDA with the baseline information of their capacity to take on the roles and functions of the National Designated Authority. This benefits them in planning and re-configuring their organizational structure, how they conduct their business, and how they now interact with their stakeholders at every level.  It will improve their governance, program and project approach, and their work efficiency and effectiveness.

Mr. Ruel Yamuna, the Managing Director of the CCDA said last week the organization launched the Corporate Plan during APEC events. “Today, with further support from USAID through the Ready project, we completed a joint organization assessment report of CCDA. This is a big milestone for us, building on a mini assessment conducted by UNDP two years ago. We are very proud to partner with USAID Ready on this achievement. Thank you USAID”, he stressed. Mr. Yamuna also commented that they look forward to a continued relationship with the Ready project to implement the JOA recommendations as support to the readiness for Green Climate Fund funding.

USAID Ready has been actively working with the CCDA since 2016, to prepare an application for a two million Kina Green Climate Fund Readiness and Preparatory Support Proposal, which the Green Climate Fund approved in December 2017. Earlier this year USAID, in association with CCDA, supported the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat to organize and conduct a Melanesian Sub-Regional Private Sector Workshop. This forum provided CCDA and Oil Search Limited, the opportunity to progress their dialogue to establish CCDA’s first public-private partnership.
