The tough approach taken by Water PNG Limited in its bill recovery exercise has already seen some individuals in court over unpaid bills.
Mr. Leo Kre, Water PNG’s Costumer Service Manager said, “A couple of individuals in Kokopo have been dealt with and have appeared in court. The same as well for Madang with a couple of individuals already summoned to court.”
The tough approach is a total contrast to the traditional approach by Water PNG, which was dubbed too lenient on customers resulting in a huge loss in terms of water bill for the company.
Meanwhile, the Water PNG bill recovery exercise has just completed its operation in Madang with a full report expected to be put out by the end of the month.
Mr. Kre said the full report will include just how much has been recovered plus the outstanding owed to the state owned water company. The exercise has stopped for now and whether to continue to other centers of not, will depend on the report that will come out.
So far, Kokopo, Rabaul, Lae and Madang have been covered in this exercise.
